Have You Ever Seen the Crowd Goin’ Apeshit? Humanities

“Have You Ever Seen the Crowd Goin’ Apeshit?”

That was what Beyoncé and Jay-Z asked their fans in their music video – APES**T – filmed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. My article – “Have You Ever Seen the Crowd Goin’ Apeshit?”: Disrupting Representations of Animalistic Black Femininity in the French Imaginary – investigates Black politics behind the Beyoncé and Jay-Z music video filmed at the Louvre Museum in Paris (Humanities 2019, 8(3), 135; https://doi.org/10.3390/h8030135). Findings pinpoint how Beyoncé merges the notions of “nature” and “culture”, past and present, the regal nakedness of her African heritage and Western artistic conventions of the nude to convey the complexity and humanity of Black women – thus drawing a critical reimagining of museal practices.

Wishing you an enjoyable read.
